Adoption Application & Process

At Northern Lakes Rescue, we work hard to make sure our dogs are never in need of rescue again.

The key to our success is the process we use for matching dogs to people and people to dogs. If you and your family are looking to bring a rescued dog into your home, we can help make that process a fun and life changing experience, for both humans and dogs alike.

Rescue Dogs come from a variety of places – from shelters, owner surrenders due to the economy and loss of jobs, owner health issues or even owner death, legal seizures, or commercial breeders. It’s really not important where they come from or why, it matters that they have a second chance at love and a furever family. If you are interested in adopting one (or more) of our dogs, please submit the ADOPTION APPLICATION below. We will contact you when a dog comes available matching your family needs. Our first priority is placing the right dog in the right home. We cannot take phone calls regarding available dogs.

Good things are worth waiting for. Thank you for your interest in helping one of our sweet rescue dogs.

What to expect as you move through the adoption process...

  1. Once you submit an application for a dog an Adoption Coordinator will review your request and begin the process of verifying veterinary information (if you have / have had a pet before) and checking references.

  2. Once references and vetting has been confirmed one of our amazing Foster Coordinators will be in contact with you to understand more about your interest in the pup and coordinate a home visit.

  3. Once the home visit is complete you will work with your dogs current Foster to coordinate a meet and greet with the pup.  This is a VERY important part of the process as it is when you and your family will get a chance to spend time with the dog to talk to the foster and to ensure you think he / she will be a good fit in your family.

  4. Once you get through the meet and greet, and are sure you want to move forward, you will work with your Foster Coordinator to complete necessary adoption paperwork and complete payment and be able to take the dog home with you

This process can take up to 7-21 days, depending on the circumstances, but remember this is a life commitment so it will be worth the wait!
